India’s Growing Global Influence Sparks Debate Among World Powers

Analysts and commentators argue that India is emerging as a pivotal "hinge state" in global geopolitics. Its strategic position at the crossroads of the Middle East, Indian Ocean and East Asia, control of key maritime chokepoints, and membership in groups such as the Quad and BRICS enhance its ability to shape regional stability and international alliances. The country’s massive population, expanding middle class, rapid economic growth – the world’s fourth‑largest economy and the fastest‑growing major economy according to the IMF – underpin its rising political clout.

India’s assertive foreign policy and defence partnerships with the United States, Japan and Australia are increasingly viewed as a challenge by some western observers.
