India's Home Minister to Review Security for Amarnath Yatra

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to hold a high‑level review meeting on June 12 in New Delhi to assess security, infrastructure and logistical preparations for the annual Amarnath Yatra, which begins on July 3, 2026, in Jammu & Kashmir. The meeting will include Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the army, CRPF, BSF, NIA and other agencies, and will examine anti‑terror and anti‑infiltration measures ahead of the pilgrimage.

A day earlier, senior officials inspected the Jammu‑Srinagar National Highway corridor, checking pilgrim accommodations, sanitation, water, power, medical facilities and fire safety at key sites such as Yatri Niwas and Chanderkote. Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar directed completion of pending works by June 20, including tunnel and viaduct projects on the NH‑44 route. The SDRF and fire‑emergency services were ordered to remain on standby. Both reviews aim to ensure a safe, incident‑free pilgrimage for thousands of devotees traveling to the 3,880‑metre‑high shrine.
