India's Jal Jeevan Mission expands tap water coverage in Zunheboto and Bidar districts

In Zunheboto district, the District Water and Sanitation Mission reported that 31,588 of 33,089 rural households (95.46%) now have functional tap water connections under the Jal Jeevan Mission, up from just 8.13% in 2019. Officials said 1,501 households still need connections and highlighted the restoration of a damaged main pipeline caused by a landslide. All 186 villages have been covered by the Har Ghar Jal programme, with 162 villages achieving 100% household tap water coverage.

In Bidar district, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Eshwar Khandre reviewed progress of the Jal Jeevan Mission and the Har Ghar Jal programme, noting that 644 villages have been declared as having tap water connections for every household. He instructed local officials to verify water supply in those villages within 15 days and to use the VBG Ramji employment scheme to curb distress migration caused by drought‑like conditions. Khandre also addressed fertilizer supply and crop‑insurance enrollment for farmers.
