India's civil aviation minister denies ethanol blending in jet fuel
Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu rejected claims that the government plans to blend ethanol with Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF), calling the allegations "completely false and irresponsible". He stressed that ethanol and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) are distinct, noting that SAF is an internationally certified fuel approved by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and meets global safety standards.
Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had alleged that the Modi government was preparing to mix ethanol into ATF and diesel, prompting a political row over the country's ethanol‑blending policy. The minister’s clarification came alongside a statement from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, which denied any agreement to import ethanol from the United States for fuel blending, reaffirming that India's ethanol‑blended petrol programme relies entirely on domestically produced ethanol and that no concessions were made in India‑US trade talks.
The government also highlighted recent expansion of India's aviation infrastructure, noting that the combined annual passenger‑handling capacity of Indian airports now exceeds 580 million.
