Himachal accidents kill five, injure four

A car veered off the road and fell into a gorge near Jogni in Shimla district's Rampur area on June 26, killing the driver, Peeki (40), and injuring four passengers — Sarjan (36), Jyoti Prakash (37), Lalit (27) and Jai Prakash (29). All four injured were taken to Khaneri Hospital for treatment and police opened an investigation.

The day before, a couple from Dawadi village in Chamba district, Gaurakh Kumar (33) and his wife Sushma (26), slipped into a gorge while returning home and died. Police recovered their bodies with local assistance and are conducting a separate inquiry.

Both incidents underscore the hazards on mountain roads in Himachal Pradesh and have prompted local authorities to investigate safety causes.
