India's Mekedatu dam plan sparks Karnataka‑Tamil Nadu water row

Union Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy said Karnataka is facing severe water scarcity and criticised Tamil Nadu's political parties for pressuring the state over the long‑running Kaveri water dispute. He noted that when reservoirs are full water flows freely to Tamil Nadu, but during drought the neighbouring state should not demand additional supplies.

Kumaraswamy defended the Mekedatu dam project, stating it will benefit both states, especially by providing drinking water to Bangalore. The Karnataka government has already submitted a detailed project report and is seeking Tamil Nadu's consent. He warned that dams built with Karnataka's money are being turned into water sources for the neighbouring state and urged Tamil Nadu to stop politicising the issue.

The minister also commented on recent NEET exam security, assuring that the government has taken strict measures to prevent paper leaks and ensure a smooth examination process.
