India's IMD issues heavy rain alerts for 22 states amid active monsoon

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy‑rain alerts covering 22 states as the monsoon remains highly active. Forecasts call for heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and wind speeds of 50‑80 km/h, with particular warnings for Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Assam, Kerala, Karnataka, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and other regions.

In Madhya Pradesh, the district of Bhind recorded 155 mm of rain in the past 24 hours, the highest in the state. Similar intense downpours are reported in Gujarat, Assam and parts of the western coast. The department warned of flooding, landslides, crop damage and urged residents to avoid open areas, trees and power lines during the storms.

Authorities advised fishermen to seek safe harbour and cautioned that flash floods could affect low‑lying areas. The alerts are part of ongoing efforts to mitigate the impact of the monsoon on life, agriculture and infrastructure across the country.
