India's Ministry of Minority Affairs lists 7.99 lakh Waqf properties on UMEED portal
The Ministry of Minority Affairs has completed the enlistment of 7.99 lakh Waqf properties on the UMEED Central Portal-2025 as of August 7. The portal was launched on June 6, 2025, to facilitate transparent management and governance of Waqf properties, as mandated by the Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development (UMEED) Act.
Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal recorded the highest number of enlisted properties, with 1.52 lakh and 1.31 lakh respectively. Other states with significant listings include Kerala, Maharashtra, Telangana, and Karnataka. In terms of property returns to Waqf makers, Maharashtra reported the highest number at 9,292, followed by Kerala and Gujarat.
Minister for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju informed the Lok Sabha that the Act requires all existing Waqf properties registered before the Act's commencement to be uploaded to the portal. While the rollout has progressed, some users reported intermittent technical and operational issues during the initial phase.
