India's Modi discusses West Asia peace and Hormuz navigation freedom with Iran's president

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke by phone with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on 30 June. The leaders reviewed recent tensions in West Asia and reaffirmed India’s support for dialogue‑based resolution of disputes. Modi stressed the need for lasting peace, stability and the uninterrupted flow of trade through the Hormuz Strait, describing free navigation as essential for India and the world.

The call also touched on regional infrastructure, with Iran’s foreign minister highlighting the strategic importance of the Chabahar port as a gateway to Central Asia, the Caucasus and Europe. India plans to send Governor Ata Hassanain and Minister Priti Margaret to attend the funeral ceremonies for late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei scheduled for early July, underscoring the diplomatic engagement between the two nations.

Modi reiterated that India will continue to promote diplomatic solutions and cooperation in West Asia, while safeguarding maritime trade routes.
