India's monsoon drives record grain sowing in Nagaur and fuels mushroom cultivation

Heavy monsoon rains in Rajasthan have enabled farmers in Nagaur district to advance sowing of kharif crops, with record‑area planting of moong and bajra. The Agriculture Department targets 8.32 lakh hectares for kharif crops, of which about 50 % of moong and bajra acreage is already seeded in the Medta and Degana blocks. Experts say timely moisture will boost germination and overall yields.

At the same time, the same monsoon conditions – 80‑90 % humidity, temperatures of 20‑25 °C and abundant water – are being highlighted as ideal for mushroom farming across India. Moisture and moderate temperatures accelerate growth, improve quality and reduce disease risk, while market demand rises during the rainy season. Government schemes are also supporting mushroom producers with financial and technical assistance, offering an additional income source for farmers.

Together, the favorable weather is enhancing traditional grain production in Nagaur and encouraging diversification into high‑value mushroom cultivation nationwide.
