Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan stepped down after weeks of mass student demonstrations over a leak of NEET entrance‑exam papers that sparked suicides and widespread anger. The youth‑led Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) organized protests at Jantar Mantar, demanded Pradhan’s resignation and broader exam‑reform measures, and later announced the suspension of its campaign when the government accepted its core demands, including the release of detained protesters and the withdrawal of FIRs.

Parliament saw a stark contrast on July 27: BJP and NDA MPs greeted Pradhan at the Makar Dwar with chants of “Dharmendra Pradhan zindabad”, presented him with a traditional cap and shawl, and prepared to introduce the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill around noon. Simultaneously, opposition MPs, led by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, protested inside the same precinct, demanding Home Minister Amit Shah’s accountability for a police crackdown on July 20.

A viral video purportedly showing Union Minister Piyush Goyal calling for “cockroaches” to be hanged was debunked as a deep‑fake, underscoring the misinformation surrounding the episode.
