Nirjala Ekadashi 2026 Observed on June 25 Across India
Nirjala Ekadashi, regarded as the most sacred and rewarding of the twenty‑four annual Ekadashis, will be observed on Thursday, 25 June 2026. Devotees believe that fasting on this day confers the merit of all Ekadashis in a year and can lead to spiritual liberation.
Astrological calculations forecast several auspicious yogas for the date, including a rare combination of Ravi, Shiv and Siddhi yogas, as well as a novapancham Rajyog formed by Venus and Saturn that is expected to benefit Taurus, Gemini, Cancer and Virgo signs with wealth and career gains. The day also features a Brahma Muhurat (≈ 04:04‑04:45 a.m.) and other favourable muhurats for worship.
The fast requires abstention from both food and water; it is broken (parana) on 26 June during a prescribed window of 05:25‑08:13 a.m. Traditional rituals include early‑morning bath, chanting, offering yellow flowers and basil, lighting a ghee lamp, and charitable donations. Both householders and Vaishnav sects will observe the fast on the same day, as confirmed by the Drik Panchang.
The observance is prominent throughout India and is also noted at Nepal’s Budhanilkantha Temple.
