India's Northeastern States Hit by Monsoon Flash Floods

Heavy monsoon rains caused flash floods in Arunachal Pradesh's remote Kurung Kumey district, sweeping away a church, damaging houses, schools and a bridge linking Huri to Damin. The district administration reported no confirmed human casualties and began evacuations and rescue monitoring.

In neighboring Meghalaya, rain triggered floods, landslides and inundation across 32 villages. Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma ordered heightened disaster response, including infrastructure inspections, road restrictions on the Mineng Bailey Bridge approach, and accelerated relief distribution. No fatalities have been reported.

Both state governments are coordinating emergency services and urging residents to avoid vulnerable areas as the Indian Meteorological Department's orange alert remains in effect through mid‑July.
