Indian petrol and diesel prices hold steady as global oil prices dip

After a two‑week military standoff, the United States and Iran announced a temporary cease‑fire, prompting Brent crude to drop about 5% and slip below $90 a barrel on Monday. WTI crude also fell roughly 3% to $89.31 per barrel. Analysts noted that the lull could ease traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, where commodity vessel movements remain under ten ships per day.

In India, the dip in international crude prices did not translate into changes for consumers. On 26‑27 July 2026, Indian oil companies—IOCL, BPCL and HPCL—kept retail fuel rates unchanged across major cities. Delhi’s petrol price stayed at ₹102.12 per litre and diesel at ₹95.20 per litre; Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and other metros reported similar stability with only minute city‑to‑city variations. Government tax adjustments (windfall tax reductions for petrol and increases for diesel) were announced but did not affect retail prices. The persistence of steady fuel rates comes despite ongoing geopolitical tension that could again lift oil prices if the Hormuz situation deteriorates.
