India's PM Modi Leads Meeting on West Asia Crisis, Securing Energy and Seafarer Safety

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting on July 30‑31, 2026, attended by Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and other senior officials. The discussion focused on the escalating conflict in West Asia, especially the Strait of Hormuz, and its impact on India's energy imports, fertilizer supplies and the safety of Indian seafarers.

The government affirmed that LPG, LNG and other petroleum product stocks remain adequate, that procurement sources for LPG have been diversified, and that a temporary customs‑duty exemption on selected petro‑chemical feedstock was granted. It directed accelerated expansion of piped natural gas (PNG) connections and confirmed sufficient fertilizer stocks for the upcoming Rabi season, with buffer stocks planned for Kharif. A mechanism was ordered to provide timely information, emergency assistance and counselling to Indian seafarers in conflict zones, and the Bharat Maritime Insurance Pool RELIEF scheme was introduced to support export‑related businesses.

Separately, India evacuated 2,557 nationals from Iran via Armenia and Azerbaijan and reported that 16 Indian nationals, including 10 seafarers, have been killed in the West Asia conflict.
