India’s Power Companies Issue Large‑Scale Battery Storage Tenders

The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) issued a tender on behalf of BSES Rajdhani Power Limited for a 57.5 MW / 115 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) to be deployed across four Delhi grid substations. The project, aimed at supporting renewable‑energy integration, requires bidders to handle site survey, design, procurement, installation, testing and operation, with a bid deadline of 27 July 2026.

Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company Limited (MPPMCL) released a separate tender for a much larger 625 MW / 1,250 MWh standalone BESS, to be built under a build‑own‑operate model. The system will consist of two 250 MW / 500 MWh units and one 125 MW / 250 MWh unit, with eligibility for viability‑gap funding of ₹1.8 million per MWh. Bidders must meet financial guarantees and the submission deadline is 30 July 2026. Both tenders reflect the Indian power sector’s push to expand battery storage capacity to manage peak‑load demands and enhance grid stability.
