India's Sawan 2026 Calendar: Four Mondays, Ritual Dates

The Hindu month of Sawan in 2026 will begin on Thursday, 30 July and end on the full moon of 28 August. According to the North Indian (purnimanta) calendar, the month includes four Mondays: 3 August, 10 August, 17 August and 24 August. Different regional panchangs (purnimanta in the north versus amanta in the south and west) can cause variations in the start and end dates, which also affects the count of Mondays.

Traditional observances during Sawan emphasize worship of Lord Shiva. Devotees perform water ablutions of Shiva lingams and observe fasts on Mondays. It is also customary to honor four specific plants—belpatra (betel leaf), shami, ak (madh) and tulsi—believed to bring Shiva’s blessings, household prosperity and the removal of obstacles.
