India's solar sector seeks boost with floating panel incentives and DCR market growth
The Indian government is considering incentive schemes for floating solar photovoltaic installations to expand renewable energy capacity beyond the current concentration in states such as Rajasthan and Gujarat. New and Renewable Energy Secretary Santosh Sarangi said the measures aim to decentralise deployment, address grid‑curtailment challenges, and support the development of green energy corridors and transmission infrastructure, all intended to lower electricity costs and enhance industrial competitiveness.
Solar manufacturer Vikram Solar projects that India's Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) market could reach 20‑25 GW in fiscal year 2027, up from about 10 GW the previous year, as the policy mandating local cell procurement takes effect from June 2026. CEO Sameer Nagpal highlighted strong demand across utility‑scale, commercial‑industrial and rooftop segments, while noting that roughly three‑quarters of the company's FY27 execution will still come from non‑DCR volumes. The firm also mentioned plans to grow its global footprint, particularly in the United States, and to develop a compliant supply chain that avoids tariff exposure.
