India's Tatkal Passport Scheme Enables 1‑3 Day Issuance

The Indian government’s Tatkal Passport Scheme allows applicants to receive a new passport within one to three working days, provided all documents are in order. The scheme prioritises applications for emergencies such as job offers, studies, medical needs or urgent travel. Required documents include an Aadhaar card, PAN card, voting ID or driving licence, electricity bill, bank passbook, birth certificate and a recent passport‑size photograph. Fees are ₹5,000 for a 36‑page passport and ₹6,000 for a 60‑page passport. Applicants must register on the passport service portal, select the “Tatkal” category, upload documents, pay the fee online, book an appointment at a passport service centre and complete biometric verification. If there are no discrepancies, the passport is typically issued within the stated 1‑3 day window.
