India's Tatkal Passport Scheme Offers 1‑3 Day Issuance

The Indian government’s Tatkal Passport Scheme provides a fast‑track service for citizens who need a passport urgently for travel, work, study, medical emergencies or family matters. When all documents are correct, a passport is typically issued within one to three business days, though the timeline may extend if verification issues arise.

Applicants must submit standard identity and address proofs such as Aadhaar, PAN, voter ID or driving licence, along with utility bills, bank passbook, birth proof and a recent photograph. Fees are ₹3,500 for a new 36‑page passport and ₹4,000 for a 60‑page passport. The process is completed online via the Passport Seva portal, followed by an appointment at a Passport Seva Kendra for biometric and document verification. Most Indian citizens are eligible, though some cases may require additional scrutiny.
