India's trade outlook sees $1 trillion export potential by 2035, Scotland eyes £3 billion partnership

A report commissioned by the Scottish Government and produced by the UK‑India Business Council estimates that Scotland‑India trade could exceed £3 billion a year by 2030, driven by sectors such as technology, energy transition, food and drink, and life sciences. Economy Secretary Stephen Flynn said the UK‑India Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement and the upcoming 2030 Commonwealth Games hand‑over create “no better time” for Scottish firms to expand into Indian markets.

Separately, the Indian industry body ASSOCHAM released a study projecting that merchandise exports to the nine countries covered by India's recent free‑trade agreements could reach around $1 trillion by 2035, up from $233 billion in 2025. The report highlights engineering goods, electronics, pharmaceuticals, textiles, gems and jewellery, automotive products and processed foods as key growth areas, and underscores the need for better logistics and exporter support to realise the potential.
