India's Union Minister Chirag Paswan says opposition exploiting activist Sonam Wangchuk's hunger strike

Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) national president Chirag Paswan said several opposition parties are using activist Sonam Wangchuk as the face of their political campaign after losing ground. Speaking at the Jantar Mantar protest site, Paswan expressed concern for Wangchuk’s deteriorating health during his 20‑day hunger strike and noted that both the government and the courts are worried about his condition. He highlighted the Delhi Police intervention that moved Wangchuk to Safdarjung Hospital, stating, “If the Delhi Police had to intervene, it was because no one would want the country to lose a personality like Sonam Wangchuk.” Paswan questioned the protest’s composition, noting few genuine students and many older participants, and urged dialogue over hunger strikes, warning against turning one individual into the focal point of a campaign.
