India's Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh Hit by Severe Monsoon Floods

Heavy monsoon rains have intensified across northern and central India. In Uttar Pradesh, the weather department issued rain alerts for all 75 districts, with 31 districts expected to receive very heavy rainfall. A 300‑year‑old Baba Baijunath temple in Santakbirnagar collapsed after prolonged rain, but no worshippers were present, averting casualties. Rising waters in the Sarayu river near Balia have threatened about 100 villages, and several houses have been swept away. Authorities have deployed rescue teams and warned residents to avoid riverbanks and flood‑prone areas.

In Chhattisgarh, Bilaspur recorded a maximum of 28 cm of rain, causing water‑logging and local flooding. The state meteorological office warned of heavy to very heavy rain over the next 48 hours for multiple districts, urging people to stay cautious and limit travel in inundated zones.
