Indigenous art installations and exhibitions highlighted in Canada

Indigenous art is being highlighted through new installations and upcoming exhibitions in Canada. At Okanagan College, which sits on the traditional unceded territory of the Syilx Okanagan and Secwepemc Nations, Cree artist Stewart Steinhauer has installed two granite bear sculptures. A mother bear and her cubs was placed at the Kelowna campus this spring, followed by a single grizzly bear sculpture at the Penticton campus this summer.

In Trail, the VISAC Gallery will host an exhibition titled ‘A Gathering of Indigenous Voices’ from September 14 to October 8. The show features the work of four Métis, Anishinaabe, Cree, and Hesquiaht artists: Johnny Mukwa, Mark Anthony Jacobson, Kassondra Pelletier, and Laura Lee Graves. The exhibition aims to explore culture, connection to the land, and the resilience of Indigenous voices, coinciding with the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
