Indigenous communities across Latin America celebrate cultural heritage

Various communities across Latin America held events to commemorate the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, focusing on the preservation of ancestral traditions, languages, and cultural identity.

In Papantla, Mexico, activities at Kiwigkolo Ecological Park included the graduation of 49 students from a Totonac language course and an exhibition of indigenous crafts and food. In Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, the First Intercultural Encounter of Indigenous Peoples featured traditional dances, gastronomy, and a race honoring Rarámuri heritage.

In Nicaragua, the Kamla community in the Twi Yahbra Indigenous Territory celebrated with traditional games and the election of a new Indigenous Queen. In Panama, the Bocas del Toro province held marches and cultural displays to highlight the Ngäbe and other ethnic groups. Meanwhile, in Colombia, the Abya Yala encounter in Bogotá provided a platform for indigenous groups to discuss cultural resistance and the impacts of historical violence through music, dance, and art exhibitions.
