Indigenous festivals and murals celebrate Pachamama and heritage in Peru's Quebrada and Cusco

On Saturday, 1 August, the Pueblo Perdido de la Quebrada will host a free Pacha Raymi ceremony to mark the Day of Pachamama. Led by cacique Juan Carlos Allosa, members of the Kakán Putquial, Andalgalá and Kakán Valle Chico communities will perform traditional offerings to thank Mother Earth and reinforce cultural ties with the Andean landscape.

Later, on 25 July, the Pachar community in Ollantaytambo, Cusco, celebrated its anniversary with the launch of a digital catalogue and video documenting the Pachar Pueblo Mural project. Funded by the Fundación Cultural del Banco de la Nación, Turismo Cuida and Totemiq, the initiative painted 34 façades—including the local church—covering about 900 m². Using the Qronica methodology developed by Totemiq with anthropologist Carlos Molina, locals of all ages created visual works that reflect the community’s history, rituals and connection to the land.
