IndiGo flight engine failure prompts safety concerns in India

An IndiGo flight from Kolkata to Shillong was cancelled after an engine failed while the aircraft was taxiing toward the runway. The incident occurred while DMK MP P Wilson, three other members of parliament, and 67 passengers were on board traveling to a Joint Parliamentary Committee public hearing.

Following the engine failure, passengers were reportedly stranded on the aircraft for approximately two hours before the pilot announced a technical glitch and cancelled the flight.

MP P Wilson has raised concerns regarding aviation safety, alleging the aircraft was unsafe and questioning how the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) granted it an airworthiness certificate. Wilson has called for the intervention of Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, urging the DGCA to conduct an impartial review of all airworthiness certificates across the country and implement surprise inspections to ensure passenger safety.
