IndiGo aviation safety incidents in India

Two separate incidents involving IndiGo flights have raised safety and security concerns in India.

On November 2, an IndiGo flight traveling from Kolkata to Shillong was cancelled after an engine failed while the aircraft was taxiing toward the runway. The flight was carrying 67 passengers and several members of parliament, including MP P Wilson. Following the failure, passengers were reportedly stranded on the aircraft for approximately two hours. MP P Wilson has raised concerns regarding aviation safety, alleging the aircraft was unsafe and questioning the airworthiness certification process. He has called for an impartial review by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

On November 3, a different incident occurred on an IndiGo flight from Delhi to Pune. A passenger, identified as Gaurav Satyendra Rautela, allegedly attempted to open the emergency door lever cover shortly after takeoff, which triggered an aircraft alarm. Rautela reportedly claimed he touched the cover out of curiosity. An IndiGo crew member lodged a police complaint, and authorities have registered a case against him under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Aircraft Act.
