Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium undergoes renovations for BWF World Championships

The Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the Badminton Association of India (BAI) have completed significant renovations at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi ahead of the BWF World Championships, which begin on August 17.

The upgrades follow criticism received during the India Open earlier this year, where issues such as cleanliness, pollution, and bird interference disrupted play. To address pigeon-related problems, officials have implemented the use of a non-toxic slippery gel and imported specialized sound machines from the United States designed to mimic predatory bird calls to deter them from the venue.

Additional improvements include the installation of reinforced glass doors to prevent unauthorized entry, new seating, and treated roofing. BAI Secretary General Sanjay Mishra stated that the federation is taking all feedback seriously to ensure the championships are conducted at the highest possible standard for the more than 400 players expected to compete.
