Inditex expands corporate director's authority across 40 subsidiaries, recalling 2001 IPO origins

In April 2024, Inditex appointed its corporate general director Ignacio Fernández as attorney‑in‑fact (apoderado) for 40 of the group’s subsidiaries. Fernández, formerly the chief financial officer and a trusted associate of retired chairman José Arnau, now oversees finance, sustainability, logistics, transport and infrastructure functions in companies that include Zara S.A., Massimo Dutti, Stradivarius and the group's logistics and manufacturing entities.

The move follows the historic 2001 initial public offering that listed Inditex on the Spanish stock exchange at a price range of €13.50‑€14.90 per share. At that time, founder Amancio Ortega retained a controlling stake of over 60 % while the IPO attracted institutional, retail and employee investors. Shares purchased then have since delivered a return of more than 1,600 %. The recent restructuring signals a continuation of tight founder‑aligned governance as the group expands its global retail footprint.
