Indonesia Accelerates Salt Self‑Sufficiency Project in Rote Ndao
The Indonesian government is speeding up construction of the National Salt Industry Center (K‑SIGN) in Rote Ndao, East Nusa Tenggara, to achieve national salt self‑sufficiency. A site inspection was led by Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan, joined by Marine and Fisheries Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, Villages and Disadvantaged Areas Minister Yandri Susanto, and other officials including the governor of East Nusa Tenggara and the regent of Rote Ndao.
The project, carried out by state‑owned contractor PT Nindya Karya (Persero) with participation from PT Garam Abraham Mose, aims to boost domestic salt production, cut imports and generate economic benefits for local communities.
Officials said the accelerated timeline follows presidential directives and will strengthen food security while supporting the regional economy.
