Indonesia Accelerates Village Cooperatives with Digital Push

Indonesia’s Minister of Cooperatives, Ferry Juliantono, announced a three‑step programme to accelerate village and sub‑district cooperatives (KDKMP). The plan calls for modernising the cooperatives’ image to attract youth, strengthening institutional governance and business development, and expanding digital tools for cooperative activities. By 21 July 2026, 18,285 KDKMP units are to be completed, with a target of 30,000 units and 30,000 trained managers by August 2026. The cooperatives will integrate essential services such as LPG, subsidised fertilizer, rice, cooking oil, non‑cash food aid and the People’s Credit (KUR).

At the same time, East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa praised cooperatives as the main pillar of the people’s economy and a bulwark of regional resilience during the 79th National Cooperative Day in Pamekasan. She highlighted that East Java’s Q1 2026 growth of 5.96 % surpasses the national average, contributing about 14 % of Indonesia’s GDP and over 25 % of Java’s economy. The governor urged continued cooperation to expand digital transformation and solidarity among cooperatives.
