Indonesia Red‑and‑White Village Coops Rollout
Overview
The Merah Putih Village Cooperative (KDMP) programme continues its expansion. Government‑provided shops, warehouses, vehicles and starter capital are being used to distribute staple foods and local UMKM products; about 60 of the planned 119 sites are finished, with the remainder awaiting land allocation. In Jepara, technical guidelines are being finalised so cooperatives can serve as permanent off‑takers for fishermen’s catches at the new Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih hub, which will include an ice plant, cold storage and a proposed fuel station. From 17–31 July, roughly 30 000 managers completed national training on cooperative philosophy, regulations, governance, operations and digitalisation and received certification from the National Certification Agency. Deputy Minister Farida Farichah reiterated the target of 40 000 operational cooperatives by the end of 2026 and outlined a continued managerial‑training rollout. President Prabowo Subianto, speaking at the 79th National Cooperative Day on 12 July, described cooperatives as his “family” and an economic engine. He announced the creation of the Red‑and‑White Village Cooperative system (KDKMP) with a goal of 81 000 village cooperatives nationwide. The package equips each cooperative with a grocery outlet, savings‑loan office, pharmacy, logistics warehouse, cold‑storage unit and an 8 % micro‑credit scheme (down from 22 %). He projected annual circulation of roughly Rp 223 trillion and income gains for producers of up to Rp 202 trillion. At the launch ceremony on 12 July 2026, Prabowo reported that about 12 000 cooperatives had already been established and 1 000 were operating, aiming for 40 000 functional units by year‑end. A parallel effort seeks Gen‑Z brand ambassadors to modernise the cooperatives’ image. Indonesia Corruption Watch warned of potential rent‑seeking in the procurement of 80 000 pickup trucks slated for the network, estimating a possible markup of up to Rp 5.5 trillion.
