Indonesia targets economic growth through film and gaming sectors

Indonesia is actively implementing strategies to bolster its creative economy, specifically focusing on the film and gaming sectors. Creative Economy Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya highlighted that international film productions, such as the French-Indonesian co-production "Happy Eyes," serve as catalysts for economic growth by creating jobs and driving demand in hospitality, transportation, and tourism. The government aims to attract more foreign direct investment by streamlining permits, visas, and equipment logistics.

Simultaneously, the gaming industry is seeing significant growth, with the application and gaming subsector increasing by 18.22 percent. To support this, the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) has expanded "Internet Villages" to approximately 2,000 points to provide the necessary connectivity for local developers.

Under the 2026–2045 Creative Economy Master Plan, the government is also decentralizing support by involving local governments to act as mentors for developers. Key pillars for the 2026–2029 period include improving financing, marketing, talent training, and investment. Recent efforts have included facilitating Indonesian developers at international events like Gamescom to promote global market penetration.
