Indonesia Creative Economy Initiative Expands
Entities: Ministry of Creative Economy and Culture (Bekraf) · National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) · Teuku Riefky Harsya · Arif Satria
Overview
In late July 2026 Indonesia’s Ministry of Creative Economy, led by Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya, accelerated its three flagship programmes—Aktivasi Desa Kreatif, Aktivasi Creative Hub and Creative by Indonesia—under the 2026‑2045 Rindekraf master plan, with Bali as the international showcase.
An inter‑ministerial agreement with Higher Education on 21 July targeted research commercialisation, curriculum redesign, industry‑linked internships and stronger IP protection. Youth development measures followed, including 100 Banpin scholarships in Bekasi and a tuition‑coverage programme at BINUS Malang for AI‑related fields.
On 26 July the Makassar Creative Hub (MCH) Nusantara opened, providing digital‑arts space and entrepreneurship services for young people, while a partnership with the AMANAH foundation expanded Aceh’s Creative Hub and Creative by Indonesia programmes to support local crafts, fashion and digital content.
On 28 July the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) signed a MoU with the ministry, defining four pillars—research development, funding facilitation, intellectual‑property support and cultural‑heritage protection—to implement the master plan. Simultaneously, BRIN’s head urged the mining sector to adopt long‑term, AI‑driven technologies and forecasting up to 2035‑2040, linking future‑tech adoption to the creative‑economy agenda.
Together these actions aim to create inclusive creative spaces, nurture a skilled youth workforce and embed research‑driven innovation across Indonesia’s growing creative‑economy sector.
