Indonesia advances energy and mining partnerships with Russia

Indonesia is advancing strategic economic and energy partnerships with Russia. Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia announced that the licensing process for Russian company Rusal to develop a bauxite downstreaming project in Kalimantan is nearing its final stages. The project aims to process bauxite into alumina through collaboration between Rusal and domestic businesses.

Additionally, the second phase of crude oil imports from Russia has commenced. This initiative, stemming from agreements made during President Prabowo Subianto’s recent diplomatic engagements, is intended to diversify Indonesia’s crude oil sources and ensure national energy security. The government is currently working toward establishing long-term contracts for these oil imports to maintain economic stability and energy sovereignty.
