Indonesia advances energy diversification through solar, hydrogen, and service expansion

Indonesia is advancing several strategic initiatives to diversify its energy landscape and expand industrial capabilities. Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (NRE) is addressing land availability challenges to meet the 100 GWp solar power target. To mitigate competition with the property and plantation sectors, the company is evaluating the use of its own operational land, exploring partnerships with other agencies, and considering alternatives such as floating solar and rooftop installations.

Simultaneously, the National Energy Council (DEN) is shifting focus toward the potential of natural hydrogen found within the earth's crust. This initiative involves collaboration between the government, scientific institutions like BRIN, and academia to conduct research and geological mapping to understand the formation and exploitation of this resource.

In the energy services sector, PT Elnusa Tbk is diversifying its business beyond the Pertamina ecosystem. The company is leveraging its seismic and geoscience expertise to serve external clients in various industries, with third-party customers contributing approximately 22% of its revenue as of the first half of 2026.
