Indonesia advances food security through regional initiatives and innovation

Indonesia is implementing various regional and national initiatives to strengthen food security and agricultural productivity. In Bogor, the Indonesian Women's Congress (Kowani) has launched a sorghum pilot project and integrated farming plots to support national food resilience and community welfare.

In Waropen, local officials are promoting synergy between the regional government and the military to develop food potential, including rice cultivation, fish ponds, and livestock, to drive the local economy. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agriculture is focusing on enhancing the competitiveness of plant varieties through improved legal protections and the digitalized 'APPLY PVT' application to accelerate sustainable food self-sufficiency.

However, challenges remain as the Bekasi Regency government manages a drought threat affecting 1,354 hectares of productive rice fields across 41 villages. Mitigation efforts include distributing water pumps and normalizing irrigation networks to protect production targets.
