Indonesia advances oil and gas production through well reactivation and exploration
Indonesia is advancing its upstream oil and gas production through both the reactivation of idle wells and new exploration initiatives.
In the Tapah Working Area, operator GHJ Tapah has begun the reactivation process for the Bangko field wells. This move, reported by SKK Migas Head Djoko Siswanto, is ahead of the original October 2026 schedule. The reactivation of these 10 wells, which were previously returned to the government by PetroChina, is expected to restore production by approximately 100–300 barrels of oil per day (BOPD).
Simultaneously, PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Lepas Pantai Bunyu (PHE LPB) is coordinating with local authorities in North Kalimantan for the Tingkilan–001 well exploration project in Tanjung Selor. This exploration within the Maratua Working Area aims to identify new hydrocarbon resources in the Menumbar Formation to support long-term national energy security.
