Indonesia advances regional waste management through integrated facilities and community partnerships

Various regional initiatives in Indonesia are focusing on improving waste management through integrated facilities and community partnerships. In the Solear District, local authorities are discussing the development of an Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST) in Pasanggrahan Village. The project aims to move beyond simple waste collection and disposal toward a more sustainable, integrated system involving collaboration between the government, village officials, and housing developers.

In Seruyan Regency, Central Kalimantan, PT Kerry Sawit Indonesia—a part of the Wilmar Group—has partnered with the Pejuang Muda community group to manage waste at the Sembuluh I Village Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (TPS3R) facility. This collaboration involves the company providing sorted organic and inorganic waste, such as cardboard and plastic, to the community-run center. The initiative is designed to reduce operational waste while creating economic opportunities and supporting local employment through community-based recycling.
