Indonesia advances robotics and AI through university collaborations

Universitas Indonesia (UI) held the 2026 Hackathon on September 17–18, focusing on creating technological solutions for real-world industrial challenges. The competition involved 146 students across 30 teams who developed ideas, prototypes, and minimum viable products (MVPs) based on problems provided by five industry partners: PT IDSurvey, PT Sucofindo, PT Paragon Technology and Innovation, BNI Ventures, and PT Aplikanusa Lintasarta.

In a separate development regarding robotics, AiMOGA Robotics, a company under the Chery Group, has initiated collaborations with Indonesian universities to advance embodied intelligence. During the Indonesia-China Education-Industry Collaboration Summit 2026, the company demonstrated its four-legged robot, Argos, which can respond to voice commands and follow users. The initiative aims to integrate artificial intelligence directly into physical robotic forms, a move supported by Vice Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Stella Christie, as a driver for future economic growth.
