While 4G coverage reaches nearly 99 percent of residential areas, fixed broadband penetration remains low at approximately 22 percent. Officials identified the need for improved digital infrastructure, higher quality human resources, and regulatory certainty as key challenges, with goals to increase internet speeds to 100 Mbps and reduce costs to encourage household penetration.

Other ongoing efforts include AI training for MSMEs in Banda Aceh, educational reforms to expand coding and AI electives in primary and secondary schools, and increased industry collaboration in higher education. Religious considerations also remain central, with the Indonesian Ulema Council developing ‘AI Mu’awin’, an agentic AI assistant for curated Islamic fatwas.
