Indonesia advances Sekolah Rakyat and Sekolah Garuda education projects

Indonesian officials are advancing two major educational infrastructure projects aimed at improving access and competitiveness. In Pekalongan Regency, Central Java, Deputy Minister of Social Affairs Agus Jabo Priyono is pushing for the accelerated construction of 'Sekolah Rakyat' (People's School). The local government has pledged 8.1 hectares of land for this permanent boarding school facility. The program targets children from impoverished families, specifically those in the first and second deciles of the National Socio-Economic Single Data (DTSEN), to help break the cycle of intergenerational poverty through formal education and character building.

Simultaneously, the North Maluku Provincial Government is preparing 16.2 hectares of land for the development of 'Sekolah Garuda'. This national flagship program, under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, aims to produce a generation capable of competing globally. The land procurement process is currently in the preparation stage, following legal frameworks to ensure compliance. The initiative is expected to enhance educational quality by combining modern academic standards with strong character development and discipline.
