Indonesia advances Sekolah Rakyat school construction in Kolaka Utara and Jakarta

Indonesia’s Sekolah Rakyat program is moving toward implementation. In Kendari, Deputy Regent H. Jumarding of Kolaka Utara met with Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf to confirm land‑availability and administrative readiness, targeting an October 2026 construction tender for the new school in Pakue district. The initiative, fully financed by the state budget, requires local governments to provide land while the central government covers all construction costs.

Deputy Minister of Social Affairs Agus Jabo Priyono highlighted the program’s impact on poor families, citing visits to schools in Temanggung, Karanganyar and Jakarta Timur. He described how children from low‑income households, previously unable to continue education, are now enrolled and even staying in dormitories during holidays to avoid burdening their families. Priyono noted that around four million children remain out of school due to poverty, and Sekolah Rakyat aims to bridge that gap as a priority of President Prabowo Subianto’s administration.
