Indonesia aims to produce plant‑based gasoline within four years, says President Prabowo

President Prabowo Subianto announced that Indonesia intends to develop gasoline made from agricultural crops such as palm oil, cassava, corn and sorghum within the next three to four years. He highlighted ongoing research by local professors and linked the initiative to the recently launched B50 biodiesel programme, which uses a 50 % palm‑oil blend and is expected to end diesel imports. Prabowo said the shift will broaden energy self‑reliance and boost farmer incomes, noting that “cassava farmers will prosper, corn farmers will prosper, and farmers across Indonesia will work for the benefit of the nation and their families.” The plan is presented as part of a broader drive for national energy independence and agricultural welfare.

The statement was made at the 79th National Cooperatives Day ceremony in Jakarta, underscoring the government’s focus on leveraging domestic agricultural resources to reduce fuel imports and strengthen the economy.
