Indonesia allocates $6 bn for Sumatra disaster reconstruction

Indonesia’s Ministry of Home Affairs, led by Minister Tito Karnavian, announced a total allocation of 100.166 trillion rupiah (about US$6 billion) for a three‑year rehabilitation and reconstruction program in Sumatra. The budget is split into 38.9 trillion rupiah for 2026, 32.9 trillion for 2027 and 28.2 trillion for 2028, and has been approved by the government and the DPR.

The House of Representatives (DPR) convened a coordination meeting of the Satgas (Task Force) for Sumatra disaster recovery, chaired by Vice‑Chair Sufmi Dasco Ahmad and attended by ministers, the BNPB chief, police and state‑owned enterprise heads. The meeting highlighted that 357 permanent housing units have been completed for victims in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra, while the total need across the three provinces stands at 39,335 units, with 996 still under construction. Aceh accounts for the largest share of required housing. Officials discussed next steps for infrastructure, river and road works, and further reconstruction actions.
