Indonesia and Australia Expand Transport Safety Collaboration

Indonesia and Australia have reaffirmed their commitment to bolster transport safety through the Indonesia‑Australia Transport Safety Forum, held in Canberra and Sydney under the Indonesian Transport Safety Assistance Package (ITSAP). Acting Director of Indonesia’s Sea and Coast Guard, Triono, said the forum “serves as a platform to strengthen bilateral collaboration in support of creating a safe, secure, and sustainable transportation system.”

The two governments reviewed existing cooperation and drafted a joint action plan for 2026‑2027 covering shipping safety, maritime environmental protection, improved search‑and‑rescue coordination, incident investigations, and stronger safety policies and regulations. A sub‑working group meeting between the Indonesian Sea and Coast Guard (KPLP) and the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) outlined follow‑up programs such as Basic Equipment Operation training, OILMAP training, SPILL ASIA exercises, the National Plan Exercise Australia, the Regional MARPOL Exercise, and oil‑sampling training. Officials highlighted that these initiatives aim to raise technical expertise, enhance emergency response, and protect the marine environment while supporting regional connectivity and economic growth.

The cooperation reflects a long‑term vision for a resilient, sustainable transport system between the two nations.
