Indonesia and Belarus deepen trade, food‑security and heavy‑equipment cooperation

Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, visited Minsk on 14 May 2026 to meet Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Turchin and leaders of key industrial firms – Minsk Tractor Works, Minsk Automobile Plant and BelAZ. The delegation examined opportunities to supply Indonesian agriculture and mining with Belarusian tractors, commercial vehicles and mining trucks, and discussed technology transfer, local assembly and possible use of the rupiah in future transactions.

Both sides highlighted Belarus’s role as a strategic gateway to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) market and a partner for Indonesia’s industrialisation and food‑security agenda. Plans were confirmed for Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko’s state visit to Indonesia in July 2026 and for a follow‑up business delegation from Belarus to Jakarta. The talks also covered green innovations such as nickel‑battery use and cassava‑based bio‑fuel research.

Overall, the bilateral talks aimed to map Indonesia’s strategic equipment needs, sign multiple MoUs worth billions of rupiah, and establish a roadmap for long‑term cooperation across trade, agriculture and industry.
