Indonesia and Bulgaria strengthen bilateral ties on 70th anniversary

Indonesia and Bulgaria are strengthening bilateral ties across several strategic sectors, including politics, trade, education, science, and culture, marking 70 years of diplomatic relations. Bulgarian Ambassador to Indonesia, Tanya Dimitrova, noted that the growing relationship is evidenced by frequent high-level visits, such as the visit of Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Poulev to Indonesia in September 2026.

Diplomatic momentum has been sustained through reciprocal visits between deputy foreign ministers of both nations and ongoing political consultations at the director-general level. Beyond political cooperation, both countries are working to increase trade volumes and enhance inter-ministerial collaboration.

To symbolize this friendship, a bust of Bulgarian national hero Vasil Levski was inaugurated at the Bulgarian Embassy in Jakarta on September 12, 2026. The monument is intended to reflect values of freedom, dignity, and courage.
