Indonesia and Netherlands deepen naval cooperation in Surabaya

Indonesia's navy chief, Admiral Muhammad Ali, hosted Dutch Navy Commander Vice Admiral Harold Liebregs in Surabaya on 14 May. The visit coincided with the Dutch warship HNLMS De Ruyter’s deployment in the city.

The two senior officers discussed expanding bilateral cooperation in maritime defence, operations, exercises and training. They inspected the Dutch vessel together and concluded the meeting with a ceremonial charter exchange, signalling a desire to broaden Indonesia‑Netherlands naval collaboration.
